[Swimming Club] New start with fully renovated pool

Jun. 16, 2025

Swimming Club activities have started anew at the Ikuta campus swimming pool.

This pool is the base for the swimming club’s summer training. More than 60 years have passed since its completion, and its aging has become an issue. Renovation work, including pipe replacement and repainting, was carried out and completed in March 2025. Club members waited for the water temperature to rise and began practice on May 20.

The Swimming Club is a powerhouse that has won the men’s overall title at the All-Japan Intercollegiate Athletics Championships (Intercollegiate Championships) seven times in the past 10 years. This academic year, NARITA Mio (1st year, School of Information and Communication), who placed sixth in the women’s 400-m individual medley at the 2024 Paris Olympics, has enrolled at our university and is scheduled to compete in the 2025 World Aquatics Championships to be held in Singapore in July. Furthermore, five current members are scheduled to participate in the FISU World University Games 2025 to be held in Germany in July.

The water temperature on the day was 22 degrees, and it was still cold, but the club members swam vigorously, aiming for further improvement.

Comment from captain KOJIMA Sou (4th year, School of Information and Communication)
All of the club members are highly motivated. In the newly renovated pool, we will aim to win the Intercollegiate Championships in both individual and team events. I want to swim as hard as I can for my last Intercollegiate Competition.
