Lecture “The Future of Open Dialogue” hosted by Center for Clinical Psychology and Meiji University Mental Clinic for Children and Adolescents

Lecture by Professor Emeritus Jaakko Seikkula


On June 16, the Center for Clinical Psychology (Director: ITO Naoki, Professor, School of Arts and Letters) and the Meiji University Mental Clinic for Children and Adolescents (Hospital Director : YAMATO Hiroyuki, Professor, School of Arts and Letters) jointly hosted a lecture titled “The Future of Open Dialogue” by Jaakko Seikkula, Professor Emeritus of the University of Jyväskylä in Finland, with the Tokyo Dialogue School, General Incorporated Association , at the Academy Hall of Surugadai Campus.


Open Dialogue, which originated in Finland, is a psychotherapy based on dialogue practice. About 10 years have passed since Open Dialogue was introduced to Japan, and it is now drawing attention in a wide range of fields, including medicine, nursing, clinical psychology, welfare, and education.

On the day of the lecture, Professor Emeritus Seikkula, one of the founders of Open Dialogue, spoke about the appeal and potential of Open Dialogue. In addition, a dialogue was held with the participants, moderated by SAITO Tamaki, Professor Emeritus of the University of Tsukuba, who has played a central role in the practice of Open Dialogue in Japan.

Many Clinical Psychology students in Meiji University who participated in the lecture said that they learned the importance of continuing dialogue with patients and their families.
