SATO Shun, a fourth-year student in the School of Political Science and Economics, captured the silver medal in the men’s singles event at the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating NHK Trophy, held November 7–9. With this result, Sato became the first Japanese male skater to qualify for the Grand Prix Final (December 4–7 in Nagoya) for the second consecutive year.
Sato delivered a season-best short program to place second after the opening segment. In the free skate, he successfully executed all seven of his jumps and showcased the expressive performance skills he has refined throughout the season, earning a personal best in the free program and finishing first in that segment. His combined scores secured him the overall silver medal.
Along with his gold medal from the Grand Prix event in China, Sato’s strong performance in Japan places him among the top six skaters who will compete at the prestigious Grand Prix Final for the second year in a row.
