[Shorinji Kempo Club] Wins overall title at 59th All Japan Collegiate Shorinji Kempo Championships

Shorinji Kempo Club participated in the 59th All Japan Collegiate Shorinji Kempo Championships, held from November 1 to 2 at Funabashi Arena (Funabashi, Chiba Prefecture) and the Nippon Budokan (Chiyoda, Tokyo). The competition featured 26 events, including group demonstrations, three-person kata, solo demonstrations, and paired evaluation methods, judged on technical skill and performance quality. In the events divided by rank, the team won six divisions and achieved top placements in numerous other categories.

Victorious competitors included:
・Group Demonstration, Men’s Third Dan and Above: Captain SHIROSAWA Taiga (4th year, School of Political Science and Economics) and Vice-Captain NIKKO Shunta (4th year, School of Commerce)
・Men’s White/Green Belt Division: ISHIDA Yuuichirou (1st year, School of Information and Communication) and YOKOO Tatsuya (1st year, School of Arts and Letters)
・Solo Demonstration, Solo White/Green Belt Division: NISHIYAMA Ryohkei (1st year, School of Arts and Letters)
・Three-Person Kata Division: KODAMA Hitoshi (1st year, School of Political Science and Economics), SUJZUKI Izumi (3rd year, School of Political Science and Economics), and YANAGI Ikuomi (4th year, School of Arts and Letters)
・Paired Evaluation Method, Men’s Middleweight Division: Vice-Captain NIKKO Shunta
・Paired Evaluation Method, Men’s Lightweight Division: Captain SHIROSAWA Taiga
・The team also achieved high rankings in many other events, ultimately securing both the men’s overall title and the overall men-and-women combined title.

In addition, Captain SHIROSAWA and Vice-Captain NIKKO, who won the Men’s Third Dan and Above Division, were awarded the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award for their outstanding performance.
