Dec. 02, 2025

Production Systems Laboratory (Professor IKEDA Takashi) members of the Department of Agriculture, School of Agriculture visited Sultan Idris University of Education in Malaysia from October 29 to November 1. The 10 participants included undergraduate and graduate students.

IKEDA laboratory has designated “active collaborative research and student exchange with overseas universities and research institutions” as one of its research themes. As part of this initiative, it has conducted student-led workshops 10 times with the university in an online format to date. Through these connections, a visit to a local university was realized for the first time. On-site, a diverse exchange program was implemented, including tours of the university farms in the campus and nearby botanical garden, as well as traditional Malaysian sports activities. The students enjoyed interacting in a friendly atmosphere.

Approximately 250 students from Sultan Idris University of Education participated in the four-day activities, fostering lively international exchange between students of both universities. Meiji students learned much from their local counterparts during this exchange and enjoyed an inspiring experience.

Professor IKEDA stated, “This training provided an opportunity for students, who were unable to travel abroad during the pandemic, to recognize the importance of cross-cultural understanding.” I believe the on-site exchange greatly inspired the students.”

The Production Systems Laboratory will continue planning overseas training programs to expand opportunities for international learning.
