Ms. IMAI giving a lecture
On November 14, the University Museum invited IMAI Shoko, an archaeological manga artist (and author of numerous books, including Kawaru Jomon: Iseki Hakkutsusagyoin no Watashi ga Oikaketa Ichimannen (Changing Jomon: The Ten Thousand Years I’ve Chased as an Archaeological Excavation Worker). (KADOKAWA) and held a lecture titled “From excavation to creation: The world of expression opened by archaeology” at the Global Hall of Surugadai Campus.
This lecture was planned and implemented by the University Museum student public relations ambassadors as part of the autumn reading promotion campaign BOOK MEETS NEXT 2025 organized by the Japan Publishing Industry Foundation for Culture (JPIC).
Ms. IMAI introduced her daily experiences at excavation sites and the appeal of archaeology, illustrating her talk with concrete examples. She also discussed her current activities balancing excavation work with manga creation, and the significance of conveying the profound depth of cultural properties through manga. At the venue entrance, a selection of 30 items, including archaeology-related books and manga, from the University Library’s collection was displayed. This event provided attendees with a new reading experience.
Following the lecture, the University Museum held an evening opening, providing participants with a valuable opportunity to learn about both archaeology and creative expression.
