Professor HAYASHI Yoichi’s Joint authorship paper “Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) 2.0: A Manifesto of Open Challenges and Interdisciplinary Research Directions” has been awarded the 2025 Best Paper Award in Information Fusion, the international journal published by Elsevier. Information Fusion is a leading journal in the fields of artificial intelligence and information fusion, boasting an impact factor of 15.5, and is regarded internationally as one of the most prestigious journals.
This award is presented to the most outstanding research paper published in the journal in 2025 and represents a significant achievement demonstrating the international recognition of Japan’s AI research. Explainable AI (XAI) is currently at a turning point. Given recent advancements in automated machine learning (AutoML), the publication of this paper clearly signifies a paradigm shift from “explainable AI” to a new era of “AI that requires no explanation.” This award honors a groundbreaking achievement resulting from international academic collaboration and fosters anticipation for further progress in the field of XAI.
