SUMIYOSHI competed in the FISU Winter World University Games 2025 (Torino, Italy from January 17 to 18, 2025) and finished first overall in the women’s singles figure skating to take the title. She started in third place with 65.89 points in the short program. In the free skating on the 18th, she completed a series of jumps at the beginning without any mistakes to earn a high grade of execution.
Unfortunately, she lost balance when landing after the subsequent big move, a quadruple toe loop, resulting in the deduction of points. However, she succeeded in one jump after another, including triple combination jumps, in the second half, when the base point increased to 1.1 times. She earned Level 4, the highest degree of difficulty, with all three spins and steps, and she came from behind in third place to win with a total of 204.29 points, exceeding her personal best. SUMIYOSHI won her second title after the All Japan Student Ice Sports Championships (Intercollegiate Competition)
SATO Shun (a third-year student, School of Political Science and Economics), who had secured second position in the short program, ended up in fifth place overall with a total of 248.50 points after failing to improve his scores in the free skating.
