Ikuta Library moves forward with plans for new library opening

Prior to its reopening at the new location on April 1, the Ikuta Library held an exhibition titled “Ikuta Library ALL Gallery,” showcasing the history of Ikuta Campus and the library. This event primarily highlights the history of the Ikuta Library, which will close on February 4 and be partially dismantled as it relocates to the new school building, the Center Forest. Numerous photographs of the campus in the 1950s and the library in the 2000s were displayed throughout the building, adorning aisles, staircases, and bookshelves.

Along with the photo exhibition, a countdown event was organized. On December 16, 2024—50 days before the closure—the university’s official character, Meijiro, made an appearance, giving visitors the chance to take commemorative photos. A library user (third-year student in the School of Agriculture) said, “While I feel sad about the changes to this familiar space, I am also looking forward to learning in a new environment.”

The Center Forest will start operations in April as a communal educational facility, integrating the three key functions of the Ikuta Campus: classrooms, a library, and a learning common room (a space for comprehensive self-directed learning). The new library, spanning from the first to the third floor, is preparing to open.
