PorMedTec Co. Ltd., a Meiji University start-up company, raised 510.72 million yen through third-party allotment of shares underwritten by Sekine Co., Ltd. , JGC MIRAI Innovation Fund (JGC Mirai Innovation Fund L.P./unlimited liability partner: Global Brain Corporation), and PorMedTec’s management.
Aiming to provide the option of xenotransplantation in response to the serious shortage of transplant donors, PorMedTec has established a system that uses cloning technology to reproduce, breed, and conduct pre-transplant viral testing of genetically modified donor pigs (hereafter referred to as “donor pigs”) developed by eGenesis in the United States that have a track record of kidney transplantations for patients. Since February 2024, PorMedTec has successfully produced a total of 31 donor pigs.
PorMedTec has been providing donor pigs for monkey kidney transplantation experiments at Kagoshima University since November 2024 with the priority goal of kidney transplantation. In order to cope with the increase in the number of donor pigs required due to the expansion of clinical applications, PorMedTec has increased its capital to expand its production and supply system. In the future, PorMedTec will build an ecosystem for the mass production and supply of donor pigs together with partner companies that participated in the capital increase, and aim to increase the production capacity from the current 50 pigs per year to several hundred pigs per year in two years to smoothly supply organs to transplant medical institutions.
