SASAKI Ryoko, a staff member of the Kurokawa Field Science Center, received the Poster Award at the 25th annual meeting of the Japanese Society of Organic Agriculture Science (December 7 and 8, 2024, at Keisen University).

Award winner: SASAKI Ryoko (Technical Contract Staff)
Title: Developing Lifelong Learning Courses on Organic and Natural Cultivation at University Farms: Providing a Third Place for Public Agricultural Involvement
Presenters: SASAKI Ryoko (Technical Contract Staff), HARADA Masao (Administrative Staff), IWASAKI Yasunaga (Professor, School of Agriculture)

In addition to providing education and research opportunities for university students, Meiji University Kurokawa Field Science Center offers courses to the general public, aiming to involve them as part of the future farming workforce. These courses teach vegetable cultivation while allowing participants to experience the joy of farming that extends beyond personal self-sufficiency. Alongside the courses, the presentation also highlighted the following features: The graduates of the Organic Agriculture Course serving as field assistants and participants currently enrolled in Natural Cultivation for Everyone, which is a course aimed at fostering a broader understanding of natural cultivation, view the University farms and courses as a “third place” distinct from the home and workplace.
