Ikuta Campus Center Forest completed

Mar. 17, 2025

Construction of the Center Forest was completed in January. This new facility was built to address the challenges at the Ikuta Campus, including a shortage of classrooms and aging educational facilities. Furthermore, it is designed to provide a “space for self-driven learning,” adapting to significant societal changes. After the installation of furniture and fixtures and the completion of remaining construction work in February and March, the facility will be open to students from April 1.

The Center Forest is a communal educational facility, integrating the three key functions of the Ikuta campus: classrooms, a library, and a learning commons (a space for comprehensive self-directed learning). The entire building functions as a learning center and learning commons, serving as the first place students encounter (Campus Hub) upon arriving on campus. In the center of the building is a large atrium (Center Commons) that connects the three facility functions.

The Center Forest is designed to provide opportunities “to see and be seen” throughout, encouraging incidental encounters and self-driven learning. Aiming to carry forward the “Himalayan cedar landscape” that once thrived on the project site, the facility fosters a forest-like environment that embraces diversity under the concept of “Diversity in Forest,” creating spaces that accommodate diverse students.

Preparations for the new library are underway. Various reading seat options in the new library
