[Graduate School of Advanced Mathematical Science] TAKANO awarded IPSJ prize for human-computer interaction research

Apr. 21, 2025

TAKANO Sayaka (NAKAMURA Satoshi Laboratory), a second-year master’s student in the Frontier Media Science Program, Graduate School of Advanced Mathematical Sciences, received the Student Encouragement Award at the Special Interest Group on Human-Computer Interaction, the Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ).

The title of the winning research is “Make-up FLOW 2.0: How to Share and Adopt Make-up Flowcharts of Beauty YouTubers.”

Because schools do not teach how to apply makeup, each person follows a different process. While many people now rely on YouTubers’ videos for makeup tips, incorporating those techniques into a personal routine can be challenging. TAKANO created flowcharts of her own makeup routine and those shown in beauty YouTubers’ videos, developing a system for easily integrating their techniques that draw attention.
In addition to treating the makeup process like a GitHub project for improvement, this study aims to establish “cosmetic engineering”, a field that frames makeup as a form of engineering.

Looking ahead, she envisions contributing to cosmetics engineering by gathering a broader range of makeup routines and building a system that automatically produces flowcharts based on beauty YouTubers videos.
