Since the launch of the 10-year project “Going Global! Meiji 8000!” in 2014, the university has been working toward the goal: to send out all 8000 graduates each year as “individuals who learn, think and act independently, capable of opening up new futures in a society of diverse values (in other words, human resources with the ability to pioneer the future).
According to the evaluation comments, the university was highly recognized for the following achievements:
・The introduction of the Active Term in the academic calendar successfully encouraged students to participate in overseas experiences, including short-term study and internship programs, leading to improved language and communication skills as well as greater cross-cultural understanding.
・As the leader of the Japan Forum for Internationalization of Universities, the university contributed to horizontal development to other institutions by organizing initiatives through Meiji University ASEAN Center.
・Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, the university actively promoted interaction through COIL, which helped double the number of students with overseas learning experiences and further internationalize the campus.
・Leveraging its position as a large-scale institution, the university invested a large sum of its own funds to sustain initiatives after the MEXT project ended, incorporating them into its internationalization promotion efforts in the Meiji University Grand Design 2030.
・Meiji University’s Study Abroad Encouragement Subsidy for Top Universities motivated high-achieving students to study at world-class universities overseas, resulting in many of them being sent abroad.
Go forward, the university is committed to continuing these initiatives by leveraging its comprehensive strengths and diversity, and by developing a resilient and flexible collaborative educational system. Through these efforts, it aims to cultivate individuals who can view the world from multiple perspectives, think independently, shape their own future, and play active roles in the global society.
