[School of Commerce] KATO Seminar: BADUI Design Sticky Notes as Meiji University Merchandise — Collaboration with School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences, NAKAMURA Lab.

Jan. 24, 2026

The School of Commerce KATO Takumi Seminar planned “Meiji University Goods Powered by Meiji Research,” which embodies Meiji University’s research results as gifts and souvenirs. The Seminar operates under the concept “From consumer to marketer,” identifying issues with various products and services and planning and formulating strategies to resolve them.

As the first initiative of this effort, in cooperation with NAKAMURA Satoshi Laboratory, Department of Frontier Media Science, School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences, they developed sticky notes for learning design from BADUI. BADUI (Bad UI) is a concept that refers to user interfaces that are actually difficult to use or hard to understand. The sticky notes developed this time use BADUI as their subject matter, designed to convey university research findings to users in an easy-to-understand manner.

The KATO Seminar previously analyzed factors of loyalty to the university in a survey of approximately 1,600 of the university’s alumni. It was confirmed that Meiji University functions with the university brand and sports as its two pillars for fostering loyalty. On the other hand, universities as educational and research institutions, need to enhance the perception of research as their third pillar. This aspect currently poses a challenge in terms of loyalty.

The KATO Seminar clarified that widely disseminating research findings to society is also highly valued as science communication. To promote the university’s educational and research image, it has developed the sticky notes for learning design from BADUI in cooperation with NAKAMURA Laboratory, School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences.

This product is scheduled to go on sale on January 8 at a price of 500 yen (tax included). The Kato Seminar commented, “We’d be delighted if people use these fun and educational sticky notes to communicate with colleagues, friends, and family.”
