The Meiji University Sports Press won the grand prize at the 19th University Sports Newspaper Contest, an award ceremony hosted by the Hochi Shimbun, on February 28.

In the University Sports Newspaper Contest, universities across Japan that regularly publish sports newspapers compete on the quality of their newspapers. This year, 16 universities participated in the event, and the Meiji University Sports Press won the grand prize for the planning and organization of its Special Issue about the Professional Baseball Draft Meeting (No. 550) published in October last year.

The Meiji University Sports Press was founded in 1953 and has about 60 members. The club publishes a wide range of articles, including the results of Meiji University’s 46 sports clubs and independent interviews with the clubs, in print, on its website, and on social media.

The Meiji University Sports Press will continue to report on the activities of each sports club and the appeal of the games.

Comment from Senior Editor TAKAHASHI Miu (4th-year, School of Political Science and Economics)
I am very honored to receive this wonderful award, the grand prize. The activities of Meidai Sports are made possible by the athletes who cooperate in our interviews, the people who support us, and the readers, and I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your daily support.

Frustrated by the failure to win a title in the contest last year, we have devoted ourselves to the creation of a newspaper unique to Meidai Sports by thoroughly studying other universities’ newspapers and professional newspapers. The 74th generation members, who served as executives in AY2025, had very strong personalities, but I feel that the strengths of each of them created a synergistic effect and led to this result.

We will continue to make efforts to convey the appeal of Meiji University through various activities in addition to the newspaper. I hope you will continue to support Meidai Sports.
