Fujiseiun (name: HIGASHI Tatsuki), a 2020 graduate of the School of Political Science and Economics and former member of Meiji University’s Sumo Club, has been promoted to the top makuuchi division at Maegashira #6, according to the official banzuke rankings announced by the Japan Sumo Association on February 24 for the Grand Sumo Spring Tournament. He is the sixth wrestler from Meiji University to reach makuuchi, and the first since Buyuzan (now Yamawake Oyakata) in the November 2001 tournament.

After graduating from Meiji University, Fujiseiun joined a corporate sumo team before entering Fujishima Stable. He continued his training under Yamawake oyakata. In the New Year Tournament earlier this year, he posted an impressive 11–4 record as the top-ranked wrestler of west in the second division (Juryo division), securing promotion to makuuchi.

The Spring Tournament concluded on March 22, where Fujiseiun recorded 10 wins and was awarded the Fighting Spirit Prize (Kanto-sho).

Comment from Fujiseiun
When I saw the rankings announcing my promotion to the makuuchi division, I felt both the joy of having come this far and the determination that the real challenge begins now. I will step into every bout with the mindset of a challenger.

The four years I spent in the Sumo Club at Meiji University helped me grow tremendously. I learned not only technical skills, but also the mental toughness to face adversity head-on and the importance of gratitude toward those around me. Those experiences shaped who I am today. Drawing on the strong foundation and fighting spirit I developed at university, I hope to prove that I can compete at the highest level in the makuuchi division.
