On April 20, President Cholvit JEARAJIT and other members of a delegation from Srinakharinwirot University in Thailand, a partner institution of Meiji University under an inter-university agreement, visited the Surugadai Campus. President UENO congratulated Srinakharinwirot University on its 77th anniversary and welcomed the delegation. Referring to his visit to the Meiji University ASEAN Center on Srinakharinwirot University’s campus, he said, “Seeing firsthand how students are gaining meaningful learning experiences in Thailand reaffirmed the significance of our collaboration for me. I hope this visit will lead to even stronger ties between our universities.”
In response, President JEARAJIT said, “We are grateful for your warm welcome. I am confident that collaboration between our two universities will continue to produce meaningful results.”
The two presidents then exchanged views on a range of topics, including the promotion of student exchange, faculty and staff exchanges, joint research on global social issues, and plans for a series of relay seminars in Thailand and Japan.
Following the discussion, KATO Hisakazu, Vice President (Academic Affairs) and Professor at the School of Political Science and Economics, delivered a lecture titled “Challenges Facing Japan’s Super-Aging Society: How Can Universities Contribute?” on population aging, which is also a growing social issue in Thailand. From the perspective of demography, he explained the current state of population aging in Japan, provided an overview of the social and economic challenges associated with aging, and presented the role that universities can play in helping to address these issues.
The International Collaboration Division will continue to strengthen cooperation with international partner institutions and create an environment that enables students to learn in a global context. (International Collaboration Office)
