H.E. Mr. Edward Wade APPLETON, Jr., Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Liberia, and Ms. Renaisa N. SUMMON, First Secretary, visited the Surugadai Campus on April 30, where they exchanged views with President UENO Masao and Vice President (International Affairs) KOMA Kyoko.

President UENO welcomed the delegation and noted the divisions in today’s international community that arise from differences in values and positions. “In an era like this, education and mutual understanding are more important than ever. Opportunities to exchange views are highly meaningful,” he said.

Vice President KOMA noted that five students from Africa, including graduate and undergraduate students, are currently studying at Meiji University through the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program.

In response, Ambassador Edward Wade APPLETON, Jr. said, “I believe that having many students from Liberia study in Japan will help strengthen the cultural ties between our two countries.”

The meeting was cordial throughout and concluded with an exchange of commemorative gifts and a group photo.
