Meiji University confers the title of Emeritus Professor on 28 faculty members

Effective April 1, Meiji University conferred the title of Emeritus Professor on 28 faculty members who had served the University for many years and made outstanding contributions to education and scholarship. A ceremony at which the certificates of conferment were presented was held on June 10 at Kishimoto Tatsuo HALL in Liberty Tower on the Surugadai Campus. President UENO Masao, Chairman of the Board of Trustees YANAGIYA Takashi, and other University officers and officials attended the ceremony. President UENO personally presented a certificate to each recipient.

President UENO said, “No matter how much the times may change, education and research will always remain at the core of a university. Meiji University’s mission, to pursue academic inquiry freely and foster the spirit of thinking and acting independently, is embodied in the educational and research work that you have carried out over many years. I hope that you will continue to serve as valued guides for Meiji University and support the University’s academic community.”

Chairman YANAGIYA offered his congratulations, saying, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to all of you for your many years of dedication to education and the advancement of scholarship at Meiji University, as well as for your outstanding achievements both within and beyond the University. I hope that you will continue to offer us your guidance from a broad perspective and provide us with your support and cooperation.”


Emeritus Professor NAGASHIMA Hiroshi

Speaking on behalf of the newly appointed Professors Emeriti, Emeritus Professor  NAGASHIMA Hiroshi spoke about his work at PorMedTec Co., Ltd., a Meiji University spin-off company where he serves as Representative Director. He said, “The work of a university faculty member would not be possible without encounters with highly motivated students. Students grow through their own efforts, and all a university faculty member can do is provide opportunities. Highly motivated students should be given good opportunities.” He then expressed his resolve, saying, “I intend to continue my research and give back to the University.”
