The School of Political Science and Economics hosted a short-term exchange program for students from Northeastern University in the United States from May 25 to June 15, welcoming 28 visiting students.
Northeastern University is a private comprehensive university located in Massachusetts, United States. Since launching the program in 2008, the School of Political Science and Economics has welcomed students from Northeastern University each year for a short-term stay. The program offers special classes taught by faculty members of the School, along with activities such as exchanges between students of the School and the visiting students, and off-campus excursions.
During the program, the visiting students attended lectures in the faculty members’ respective areas of expertise, including Japanese politics, economy, society, and culture, deepening their understanding of Japan. In addition to attending classes on campus, they took part in a guided tour of the National Diet accompanied by faculty members and students of the School, gaining firsthand exposure to Japanese politics and economics beyond the campus.
For the student exchange activities, the School’s International Exchange Student Committee, The Supporters, took the lead in welcoming the visiting students. At the welcome party, The Supporters introduced them to kendama, a traditional Japanese cup-and-ball game, as well as accessible games such as a target-shooting game and a bean-transfer game, giving the visiting students an opportunity to experience Japanese culture. An overnight retreat at a University seminar house and a Japanese cultural experience event also provided valuable opportunities for students from the School and Northeastern University to interact with one another and deepen their understanding of each other’s cultures.
The program further strengthened student exchange between the two universities. The University hopes that each student involved in the program will find greater fulfillment in their future student life and decisions about their future path.
