Meiji University, SATO Shun and MARUYAMA Nozomi receive JOC honors

Meiji University was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation under the Top Athlete Support Award at the FY2025 JOC Sports Awards, organized by the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC).

The awards ceremony was held in Tokyo on July 11. At the ceremony, the Certificate of Appreciation was presented to SASAKI Sou, general manager of the University’s Skating Club. SATO Shun, a fourth-year student in the School of Political Science and Economics and a member of the Skating Club, received the Special Distinction Award. MARUYAMA Nozomi, a former member of the Ski Club who graduated from the School of Political Science and Economics in 2021, received the Outstanding Performance Award.

The JOC Sports Awards were established to promote the Olympic Movement and recognize individuals and organizations for outstanding achievements in various fields of sport. The Top Athlete Support Award recognizes organizations that contribute to improving the competitive performance of Japanese national team athletes and supporting their success in international competitions. Meiji University was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation under the award for supporting the development and performance enhancement of top athletes through the Japan Skating Federation.

SATO received the Special Distinction Award in recognition of his silver medal in the figure skating team event and bronze medal in the men’s singles event at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games. MARUYAMA received the Outstanding Performance Award for winning bronze medals in the women’s individual normal hill and mixed team ski jumping events, as well as finishing eighth in the women’s individual large hill event, at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
