Graduate School of Arts and Letters: Academic Research Meeting with Chinese Academy of Social Sciences
The Graduate School of Arts and Letters held the Third Academic Research Meeting with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences on June 15 and 16, at Institute of Modern History, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing, China.
This academic exchange meeting followed the research workshop held in July 2012 at Meiji University and the theme this time was “Discussion on Japan-China exchange and history of Japan-China relations.” On June 15, Professor (non-tenured) Kazuto Inoue of the Graduate School of Arts and Letters and Professor Hideshi Ishikawa and Professor Takehiko Yoshimura of the School of Arts and Letters gave a research report on “Ancient China, Japan and China relations,” while on June 16, Professor Hiroki Ochiai, Professor Yoshikatsu Hayashi, and Assistant Professor (non-tenured) Hiroshi Ise of the School of Arts and Letters reported on “Modern China, Japan and China relations,” receiving comments and questions.
Six researchers on the Chinese side also gave reports over the two days. On the Chinese side, there were empirical reports on themes that were keeping in pace with the times, such as “Era of the Ji’an Goguryeo stele’s establishment” (researcher Xu Jian Xin) and “Hikokichi Ijuin’s observations of the times during the period of the Xinhai revolution and points about Japan’s policy toward China” (deputy researcher Dai Dong Yang), and discussion was very active. The meeting was held in an open format with researchers participating from Peking University, Tsinghua University, and Nankai University. It was an academic research meeting that left a strong impression that research on Japan is in an advanced state.
