Implementation of the Meiji Meet-UP and Welcome Party for New International Students
Sep. 25, 2023
In the current autumn semester, a total of 205 students, comprising 30 degree-seeking regular students and 175 exchange students, have enrolled at our university. On September 19th, we welcomed 94 international students who arrived for this autumn semester and held a warm reception for them. The event took place at the Liberty Tower cafeteria, Surugadai campus, and it brought together 40 Meiji University students who are members of various student exchange organizations.
"Meiji Meet-UP," is an event organization made up of student exchange groups with the aim of fostering interaction through self-introductions and various games. Initially, there was some hesitation among the participants, but as they continued with self-introductions and played mini-games, they quickly broke the ice, creating a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Following the exchange event, the International Student Center hosted a welcome party for new international students. The event commenced with a welcome speech by Mr. Yasuhiro Tokoro, Vice Director of Meiji University International Student Center, followed by a toast. Participants enjoyed light snacks and engaged in lively conversations. Conversations among the participants blossomed, numerous small groups formed, and laughter filled the entire room. Students talked to each other about their plans and were overheard to say such things as, "I want to visit Akihabara next time," followed by responses like, "That sounds great, when should we go?" Finally, Ms. Bruno Ambre Rose, an exchange student from Aix-Marseille University (France), delivered a speech on behalf of the international students, that included what she wanted to achieve during her study abroad experience. The gathering concluded on a high note.
Feedback from both international students and Meiji University participants included remarks such as "It was enjoyable" and "I made new friends." We hope that this event will further invigorate interactions within the university campus.
