On September 8, Dr. Joanne Li, the chancellor of the University of Nebraska at Omaha paid a visit together with Dr. Jody Neathery-Castro, Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Global Engagement, to the Surugadai Campus of Meiji University and exchanged views with President Kosaku Dairokuno, Vice Director for International Student Center Kyoko Koma, Vice Director for Japanese Language Education Center Tomoko Yamagishi and two other faculty members from the Organization for International Collaboration .

 
In this meeting, President Dairokuno welcomed the visit and expressed his intention to actively strengthen cooperative relationships with the University of Nebraska at Omaha and stressed on the importance of having diverse ideas, diverse cultural background to exchange ideas in order to equip students with relevant skill and knowledge sets to go through ever changing globalized world.

 

In response, Chancellor Li agreed with President Dairokuno and showed her view that diversity of thoughts and the global workforce made-up of different kind of people, and only when we have opportunity to put them together, we create and we innovate. Chancellor Li also mentioned that providing affordable, accessible and quality education, doing pragmatic and impactful research, as well as serving our community are three things to be achieved in order to be an egalitarian university.

 

The lively discussion was followed by a signing ceremony to renew the MoU. The signing ceremony was conducted by President Dairokuno, Chancellor Li and Dr Neathery-Castro.
