On the evening of June 12, exchange students took part in a home visit where they enjoyed a traditional tea ceremony and cultural interaction.
The 11 participating students were selected by lottery from among many applicants. They came from a wide range of countries and regions, including Western countries (the United States, France, Russia, and Sweden), Asia (China, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam), and the Middle East (Turkey). The group visited the home of Mrs. Ritsuko Naito, who resides in Tokyo.
The event began with a lecture on the basics of the tea ceremony by Ms. Ayako Ishizaki, a tea ceremony instructor and a friend of Mrs. Naito. After observing and enjoying tea prepared by Ms. Ishizaki, the students had the opportunity to try making tea themselves using a bamboo whisk. Although they were initially unsure how to handle the whisk, their earnest expressions and smiles left a strong impression. Afterward, everyone gathered for light refreshments and enjoyed games together in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Since many of the students were meeting for the first time, they seemed a bit nervous at first. However, they gradually relaxed and became friendly with one another. For them, it was a meaningful experience that deepened their understanding of Japanese culture while also allowing them to make new friends.
