President Jena of Friedrich Schiller University and Presidents of University of Applied Sciences paid a courtesy call

President Georg Pohnert of Jena of Friedrich Schiller University, which is a partner of the inter-university agreement, and Presidents of University of Applied Scienceses visited Surugadai Campus on April 24. They exchanged views on the future collaboration with President UENO Masao, Vice President KOMA Kyoko (professor in the School of Information and Communication), Susanne SCHERMANN (professor in the School of Law), Heinrich MENKHAUS (professor in the School of Law).

President Ueno warmly welcomed President Pohnert and his delegation, reflecting on the more than 20 years of exchange between the two universities. He thanked them for its offer of support to the University in the wake of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.

In response, President Ponat said, “I would like to thank you for your gracious hospitality. We hope to create a better educational and research environment for future generations. “

In the discussion, both sides agreed to deepen cooperation through effective communication with each other.

Prior to the courtesy visit, Professors Menckhaus and Shearman gave President Ponat and his delegation a campus tour of the Surugadai campus, showing them around the educational and research environment of the university.

Friedrich Schiller University Jena is a public university founded in 1558 and located in Jena, Thuringia, Germany. Jena, known as “the city in the green,” is a city with thriving industry, especially in optical machinery, glass, and chemicals, and is also well known as a university city.
