Academic Year 2021 Classes (Fifth Report)
Notice Concerning the Response to the Declaration of State of Emergency

Three weeks have passed since the start of the Spring Semester 2021. In response to the continuous spread of the COVID-19 infection in Tokyo prefecture, the Government of Japan will declare shortly a state of emergency. The central and local governments request universities to make the best use of online instead of face-to-face classes, to avoid further spread of the COVID-19 infection.

Considering the emergency declaration, we at Meiji University have decided to upgrade the “Meiji University Activity Restriction Guidelines” to LEVEL 2, instead of the current Level 1, for the purpose of ensuring the safety of our students, faculty and staff members. As for the classes under Level 2 of the aforementioned Activity Restriction Guidelines., online classes will be mainly conducted and some classes (Approximately 30% of the total) will be conducted face-to-face, but the class size will be limited.

This Guideline level is effective from April 25 until further notice.

The classes originally planned as “face-to-face session”, but will be shifted to “online session” may need some time for preparation. The switched class will start as soon as the preparation for online has been completed.

Details for students and faculty members will be notified with the “Oh-o! Meiji” system. Therefore, all students are kindly requested to check the information of “ClassWeb” and follow the instructions from the faculty member in charge of each class.

For your information, we at Meiji University will not change the policy that Face-to-Face classes will be mainly conducted during the Spring Semester 2021, and plan to resume them soon after the emergency declaration is lifted.

Also, please be reminded that unnecessary outings and travel must be avoided during the Golden Week holidays and everyone should behave properly for preventing the COVID-19 infection. The details of these restrictions under Level 2 will be announced later, as soon as more information becomes available.

We ask for your continued understanding and cooperation so that students, faculty members and staff of Meiji University can work together to overcome the COVID-19 infection.
