Dec. 19, 2023
On Thursday, November 23, the 10th Anniversary Commemorative Symposium for the International Program in Architecture and Urban Design (IAUD) of the Architecture and Urbanism Program, Graduate School of Science and Technology, was held at Liberty Hall.
Established in 2013 on the Nakano Campus, IAUD is a master’s and doctoral program with the aim of developing professionals in architecture and urban design capable of thriving on the global stage. All classes and practical training are conducted in English, and in 2016, the program received accreditation from JABEE in Architecture at both the bachelor’s and master’s levels, awarding a globally recognized Master’s degree in Architecture in accordance with the UNESCO-UIA Charter for Architectural Education.
The symposium began with a welcome address from President DAIROKUNO, followed by presentations from Professor KOBAYASHI Masami and Professor TANAKA Tomoaki, introducing the background and history of the program, and then a tripartite talk involving graduates from various countries took place. Graduates reported that the knowledge gained from collaborating with students of diverse nationalities at IAUD is proving valuable in the real world. In the final session, a panel discussion took place between external experts and university faculty members, engaging in enthusiastic discussions regarding feedback on the past decade of education and research, along with their visions for the future. Participating architecture students expressed positive feedback during the symposium, emphasizing that they gained intriguing insights from international perspectives.
Furthermore, from November 28 to 30, the exhibition titled Searching for our Inherent Urbanism, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the IAUD, took place on the first floor of the Global Front. Alongside a huge model of Tokyo, numerous exceptional architectural works planned for various locations worldwide were exhibited, receiving positive acclaim.
