OSANAI Takashi, Associate Professor of the Department of Agricultural Chemistry, School of Agriculture, received the 8th Bioindustry Incentive Award, which was presented at the ceremony held at BioJapan2024 (Pacifico Yokohama) on Friday, October 9, 2024. This prize is awarded by the Japan Bioindustry Association to promising young researchers engaged in research oriented towards applications related to bioscience and biotechnology, and to recognize their achievements.
Title: Production of bioplastics by altering the transcription and metabolism of cyanobacteria
Associate professor OSANAI has been researching metabolic engineering for use in food and bioplastic materials by elucidating the metabolic mechanisms of microalgae, including cyanobacteria. Among microalgae, he has elucidated the regulatory mechanisms of transcription and metabolism of the unicellular cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 (Synechocystis) and developed technology for producing carboxylic acids through genetic modification. In 2022, he founded Cyanology Co., Ltd. as a venture company spun off from Meiji University. He is actively promoting social implementation while launching products and services.
