The Izumi Learning Square, an educational building on Meiji University’s Izumi Campus in Suginami City of Tokyo, has won the BCS Prize of Japan Federation of Construction Contractors (JFCC). The BCS Prize aims to create good building assets and contribute to the advancement of Japanese culture and the preservation of the global environment by awarding excellent buildings every year.
In the selection process, each building was evaluated mainly based on the cooperative relationship among the constructor, designer and builder (trinity), and comprehensively evaluated based on five items: business planning; planning and design; construction; environment; and operation and maintenance of the building.

In this 65th BCS Prize award, out of 74 entries, 15 were awarded, including Izumi Learning Square, Escon Field HOKKAIDO (Kitahiroshima City, Hokkaido), Tokyo Midtown Yaesu (Chuo City, Tokyo), and Miyashita Park (Shibuya City, Tokyo).

Izumi Learning Square was completed in March 2022 to commemorate Meiji University’s 140-year anniversary. It was the only school facility (university) to receive this award for “realizing the potential of diverse places for students to stay in the campus after COVID-19 in the space inside and outside the building.”

This is the second time Meiji University has received the Prize since 2015, when Izumi Library, which was completed in May 2012 as a commemorative project for the 130-year anniversary, received the 56th BCS Prize.
