[School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences] Professor MORI Hiroyuki (Department of Network Design) receives the IEEJ Outstanding Achievement Award

Jun. 14, 2024

Professor MORI Hiroyuki received the 2024 IEEJ Outstanding Achievement Award for his contribution to the development and application of artificial intelligence technology in power system engineering.

The IEEJ Outstanding Achievement Award is given to researchers who have contributed to the development of electrical science or technology over the years.

From a computer-based system engineering perspective, power system engineering is the field of developing technology to supply stable electricity to consumer households via transmission and distribution networks, using electricity generated by power plants.
In recent years, power system engineering has attracted global attention for the realization of a sustainable society through its deep involvement in smart grids, smart cities, renewable energy such as solar and wind power generation, power storage devices, electric vehicles, demand response, power markets, carbon neutrality, and hydrogen energy use.

Professor MORI Hiroyuki has been engaged in research on the operation, planning, and analysis of electric power systems for many years. In the research field of transmission systems, he has developed new methods for stochastic power flow calculation, continuous power flow calculation, transmission system expansion planning, and stochastic reliability analysis. In the research field of distribution systems, he has achieved research results on the evaluation of highly accurate approximate solutions of global optimal solutions using evolutionary computation. In recent years, he has also conducted research on the new methods of classification of harmonic loads using neural networks, power load prediction, estimation of dynamic stability index, power price prediction using deep neural networks, output prediction of wind power generation, and output prediction of solar power generation, and published a total of 77 articles in journals relevant to the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. The award was given to honor the outstanding achievements of Professor MORI, who is actively and continuously engaged in research activities.
