TOGAMI Shunsuke (School of Political Science and Economics), a former member of the Table Tennis Club, visited the Surugadai Campus on May 29 with KODAMA Keiji, the club’s honorary general manager, to report to President UENO Masao and Chairman, Board of Trustees YANAGIYA Takashi that he won a gold medal at the 2025 World Table Tennis Championships in Doha.

The Championships was held in Doha, Qatar, from May 17 to 25. TOGAMI competed in the men’s doubles with SHINOZUKA Hiroto and won a gold medal in the event, the first for Japan in 64 years.

At the meeting, TOGAMI talked about his life in Germany, where he trains. He chose to live overseas in order to improve not only his table tennis skills but also his language skills. The environment in the suburbs of Munich, where he can concentrate on table tennis, attracts top-ranked players from around the world. International tournaments are often held in Asia, and travel times exceeding 10 hours are not uncommon. Despite the grueling schedule, he returns to Germany between tournaments to train with world-class athletes and continue improving his skills.

Following this visit, TOGAMI returned to his home prefecture of Mie. After a brief rest, he will set his sights on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

He never gives up and tries to improve even in difficult situations.
