[School of Science and Technology] Professor TSUCHIMOTO Teruhisa's article published in 2023 has been selected as a “Top Viewed Article” by the academic publisher Wiley

Jul. 07, 2025

An academic paper published by Organic Reaction Control Lab. (Professor TSUCHIMOTO Teruhisa), "Quaternary Ammonium Salts: Catalysts for Hydrosilylation of Alkynes with Hydrosilanes," was among the top 10% most-viewed articles published in Advanced Synthesis & Catalysis (impact factor = 5.4) in 2023.

In addition to the paper itself being selected for VIP (Very Important Publication), inside cover picture was also used as the cover picture of the journal in which it was published (2023/24 edition). Tsuchimoto Laboratory is continuing research related to this study. Please stay tuned for the second and third installments.

Research focus:
Hydrosilylation of alkynes—compounds containing carbon–carbon triple bonds—via the addition of H–Si bonds from hydrosilanes has traditionally relied on catalysts composed of rare and expensive metals such as platinum, rhodium, and palladium. The purification and refining of these metals, which serve as the active centers of such catalysts, require large-scale facilities and significant energy input. From the standpoint of efficient utilization of limited resources and energy, this has long been recognized as an area in need of improvement.
In contrast, the referenced study marks what is effectively the first successful demonstration of alkyne hydrosilylation using an organic compound as a catalyst, entirely free of metal catalysts. Organic compounds can be purified in small quantities, thereby reducing the need for large-scale infrastructure and energy compared to metal purification processes.
This breakthrough is likely a key reason the study has garnered significant attention within the scientific community. Alkyne hydrosilylation is considered an important reaction in organic synthesis, particularly because it enables the synthesis of alkenylsilanes—compounds of great relevance in materials science.
