[School of Commerce] TOKORO Seminar selected for the 2025 Fondo de la Amistad

Jul. 08, 2025

The TOKORO Yasuhiro Seminar at the School of Commerce is involved in an international project for the Akimatsuri, one of the largest Japanese cultural festivals in Mexico, sponsored by the Asociación México Japonesa.

This project was selected for the FY2025 grant of Fondo de la Amistad México-Japón, which is jointly operated by the Mexican and Japanese governments (Secretaría de Educación Pública and Embajada del Japón en México), and has attracted attention as an activity that is responsible for academic and cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Interview survey of Mexican diplomats conducted at the Embajada del Japón en México

The students of the Seminar are currently producing a 50-page cultural publicity magazine on the themes of cultures and societies of Japan and Mexico and SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). The magazine includes content based on the SDGs by comparing the two countries in terms of education systems, food culture and ancient civilizations, environmental policies and disaster prevention, gender equality, and ecotourism, for example. In addition, the results of an interview survey with diplomats of Embajada del Japón en México and the voices of people in Mexico engaged in volunteer activities will be included.

Presentation in English to Mexican diplomats and other related parties to present the results

The completed booklet will be distributed free of charge to visitors (approximately 10,000 people over three days) at Akimatsuri to be held in Mexico City in autumn 2025. By providing readers with the frank perspectives of Japanese students, the booklet aims to introduce a new image of Japan to Mexicans and promote mutual understanding between the two countries.

In this project, the results will be presented in English to Mexican diplomats and related parties, and it is a valuable opportunity for the Seminar students to improve their language skills and develop their ability to understand different cultures, as well as communicate and collaborate others.
