Dr. MORIKAWA Satoru (Senior Assistant Professor, Keio University School of Medicine) gives a lecture
Meiji University International Institute for Materials with Life Functions (Director: Professor AIZAWA Mamoru, School of Science and Technology) held an open symposium on June 18, 2025 at Building No.2 of Ikuta Campus. The symposium was attended by about 40 people, including faculty, undergraduate and graduate students of the University, and general applicants including researchers from other universities.
The symposium has been held every year as the Workshop for Next-generation Biomaterials since 2018 when it was a research cluster. In recent years, it has been organized under the title of "Materials with Life Functions: How do you give life functions to artificial biomaterials?" This academic year's first session invited Dr. MORIKAWA Satoru (Senior Assistant Professor, Keio University School of Medicine), a leading medical researcher as an oral surgeon, to give a lecture.
Dr. MORIKAWA delivered a lecture titled "Function and Regulation of Stem Cells in Tissue Formation in Vivo: Toward Development of Therapeutic Strategies by Materials Science." In the first half of the lecture, he introduced examples of research on mesenchymal stem cells, which are useful for tissue regeneration, and in the second half, he gave an overview of recent topics such as peri-implantitis and explained therapeutic strategies. He also mentioned the expectations for materials with life functions mainly in the field of oral surgery. During the question-and-answer session with the participants, they also asked specific questions about research cases, which seemed to attract a high level of interest.
