TTTVR: Enabling Tele-Immersion in the Metaverse

TTTVR: Enabling Tele-Immersion in the Metaverse
At Entertainment Computing 2025 (EC2025) held at Nihon University from August 25, 2025 to August 27, Professor MIYASHITA Homei, Department of Frontier Media Science, School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences, won the General Session Excellence Award for his research titled Reconstructing Food Through the Mediatization of Taste, Smell, and Nutrition.

The general sessions of this symposium feature oral presentations followed by demonstration poster presentations, and this award is given to the excellent research submitted to the general sessions.

This research reinterprets taste, smell, and nutrition as media that can be recorded, edited, and reproduced, presenting a vision to expand food into a programmable realm of expression. Against the backdrop of individualized health needs, diversifying preferences, and demands for global sustainability, this research reconsiders the nature of food, detailing the technology and philosophy behind: Tele-eat that shares tastes across time and space, nutritional media that automatically adjusts nutrition for each individual, and personalization that enriches the exploration process itself. For example, the TTTVR has been proposed as a device to greatly advance Tele-eat in the metaverse, integrating TTTV4 with an HMD like a snorkel. On this foundation, the DFW (Digital Food Workstation) concept was presented as a future platform enabling everyone to become creators of food. Alongside this, the concept for the ultimate seasoning home appliance was unveiled, integrating gas fermentation and artificial photosynthesis into a household device to enable self-sufficiency in producing ingredients themselves.
