[School of Science and Technology] Associate Professor ISHIDA Sachiko receives JSST2024 Outstanding Presentation Award
Jan. 09, 2025
At the 43rd JSST Annual International Conference on Simulation Technology (JSST2024) held by the Japan Society for Simulation Technology (JSST) at the University of Hyogo from September 17 to 20, 2024, Associate Professor ISHIDA Sachiko (Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Science and Technology) and MATSUDA Ryoma (completed master’s course in the Mechanical Engineering Program in 2023) received the Outstanding Presentation Award for their research presentation. The research was based on MATSUDA’s master’s thesis, “Analysis and Evaluation of Flows in Deployable Structures with Spiral Patterns,” and further developed by Associate Professor ISHIDA, who was his academic supervisor. It was reported that a characteristic flow is generated inside the deployable structure with spiral unevenness on the wall surface, and that the flow changes with the expansion and contraction of the deployable structure. The spiral shape of the deployable structure is designed based on the mathematics of origami, and is attracting attention as research to add new hydrodynamic functions to origami.
The research is being continued as the KAKENHI Research (Grant-in-Aid for Transformative Research Areas (B), 2024 – 2026), “Origami Engineering Bridging Shape and Dynamics.”
