MIYAMOTO Yoichi, Chairman of Nikkenren handed a certificate of commendation to Chairman of the Board of Trustees YANAGIYA
Izumi Learning Square received the BCS Prize at the Nikkenren’s Commendation 2024 sponsored by the Japan Federation of Construction Contractors. Chairman of the Board of Trustees YANAGIYA Takashi and others attended the commendation ceremony held at the Okura Tokyo (Minato-ku, Tokyo) on November 29, 2024. A member of the selection committee commented on the commendation as follows: “Izumi Learning Square was awarded the BCS Award because it was a reaffirmation of the origin of architecture: excellent architecture can be achieved only if it is needed as a pleasant and comfortable environment by the people who use it after it is completed and is cherished and used for a long time.”
Izumi Learning Square was completed in March 2022 to commemorate Meiji University’s 140-year anniversary. It was the only education facility to receive this award for “realizing the potential of diverse places for students to be in the campus after COVID-19 pandemic in the spaces inside and outside the building.” This is the second time Meiji University has received this award since 2015, when Izumi Library received the 56th BCS Award.
