[School of Agriculture] OKAYASU receives the 2024 JSAS Excellent Student Award

OKAYASU Masaaki, currently a first-year master’s student in the Agriculture Program in the Department of Agriculture, the Graduate School of Agriculture (supervised by Associate Professor SASAKI Yosuke), was awarded the 2024 Japanese Society of Animal Science (JSAS) Excellent Student Award during his fourth year as an undergraduate.

This award is given to undergraduate students of outstanding achievement who are planning to study at graduate school, and who have the potential to go on to a doctoral course and contribute to JSAS academic meetings as well as the development of animal science and related industries as a researcher.

OKAYASU was actively engaged in addressing challenges in animal husbandry through his graduation research. He gave presentations on his work at major academic conferences, including “Development of a system for detecting faces of cattle using image recognition algorithms with machine learning” at the 132nd JSAS Meeting (September 16-19, 2024, at Kyoto University); and “Investigation into the behavior of pigs raised on production farms during 24 hours before death” at the 121st Meeting of the Japanese Society of Swine Science (October 31 - November 1, 2024, at Tokai University).
