Admission Policy

The Master’s Degree Program at the Graduate School of Political Science and Economics provides two courses. One is the Academic Course that aims to foster young researchers who can meet world-class standards by adopting an integrated system of education from the Master’s Degree Program to the Doctorate Program. The other is the Professional Course that aims to foster high-level professionals with a high level of ability to make appropriate decisions who can work at a global level. To pursue these aims, we proactively grant admission mainly to students with the following qualities or motivation:
- those who have developed a general culture or expertise in either politics, sociology or economics, and have definite problem consciousness; and
- those who have driven towards education, including a willingness to tackle literature written in foreign languages and are motivated to continue research with persistence.

Under the admission policy described above, we have adopted various entrance examination systems that are suitable for various types of applicant, such as internal entrance examinations, general entrance examinations which are conducted with respect to each course, entrance examinations for international students, special entrance examinations for adult students and early admission entrance examinations.

Descriptions and levels of knowledge or other qualities required are as follows:
- to have developed a general culture in politics, sociology or economics, or fields relevant to these, and have acquired basic abilities necessary for analysis and consideration of subjects of research;
- to have acquired communication skills to have discussions to clarify your own opinions showing respect for other people’s opinions; and
- to have the ability to respond to the globalizing modern society, and have acquired a wide perspective and considerable ability in foreign languages.
 

The Doctorate Program at the Graduate School of Political Science and Economics aims to foster researchers who are superior in independent mindedness, creativity and innovative power and possess originality and can completely meet world-class standards. To pursue this aim, we proactively grant admission mainly to students with the following qualities or motivation:
- those who have sufficient expertise in either politics, sociology or economics, and have definite problem consciousness; and
- those who have sufficient ability to read and comprehend literature written in foreign languages and are motivated to continue research with persistence.

Under the admission policy described above, we make fair selections of graduate students based on their theses for their master’s degree, foreign language examinations and interview examinations.

Descriptions and levels of knowledge or other qualities required are as follows:
- to have developed sufficient expertise in politics, sociology or economics, or fields relevant to these, and have the ability to promote research with regard to your own specialized field; and
- to have developed a wide perspective, analytical methodologies and considerable ability in foreign languages to respond to the globalizing modern society in which scholarly and research activities are increasingly sophisticated, and have acquired the ability to apply them in your own specialized field.
