Mechanical Engineering Program Held Joint Workshop with UTM MJIIT
Mar. 24, 2026
From March 3 to 6, 2026, the Mechanical Engineering Program in the Graduate School of Science and Technology at Meiji University held a joint workshop with the Malaysia–Japan International Institute of Technology at University of Technology Malaysia (UTM MJIIT).
A total of seven master’s students from the Mechanical Engineering Program and two fourth-year undergraduate students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering visited the Kuala Lumpur campus, where they engaged in active research exchange with graduate students from UTM MJIIT. In addition to presenting their own research, participants enthusiastically took part in discussions, asking questions, exchanging views, and sharing ideas. The sessions were highly productive, with discussions often exceeding the allotted time, underscoring the depth and significance of the exchanges.
In preparation for the workshop, the Meiji University students worked closely with their academic supervisors to develop English abstracts, prepare presentation materials, rehearse their oral presentations, and review the abstracts of UTM MJIIT students in advance. These sustained efforts contributed greatly to the success of the workshop.
Through this experience, participants gained valuable insights into the attitudes and skills required to collaborate with individuals from diverse nationalities, religions, and cultural backgrounds. This opportunity marked an important step toward their future roles as globally active engineers.
This workshop marked the third research exchange between the Mechanical Engineering Program and UTM, following previous exchanges conducted in AY2014 and AY2016. The program will continue to promote the further development of both academic and personnel exchange between the two universities.
Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT)
The institute was established in 2011 under University of Technology Malaysia with the aim of introducing a Japanese-style engineering education and developing talented engineers equipped with practical skills and advanced research and development capabilities, who can contribute to Malaysian society. Meiji University has been a member of the MJIIT Consortium since its establishment and has maintained a close collaborative partnership.
