In the men’s singles event at the All-Japan Student Selection Table Tennis Championships held at Kamei Arena Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture on November 27 and 28, 2021, Shoudai Miyagawa (2nd year in the School of Information and Communication) won the championship and Takuto Izumo (4th year in the School of Political Science and Economics) took 2nd place.
Miyagawa and Izumo, who were among the top four, faced off in the final match. After a fierce battle, Miyagawa won by a narrow margin of 4-3 and took the championship. Yasuhiro Nishi (4th year in the School of Commerce) also finished in the top eight, and three of the top eight players were members of our Table Tennis Club.
The Table Tennis Club has achieved several excellent results in major competitions. In the 2021 World Table Tennis Championships held last month in Houston, the United States, the pair of Yukiya Uda (2nd year in the School of Commerce) and Shunsuke Togami (2nd year in the School of Political Science and Economics) captured bronze medals in the men’s doubles event.
