The Graduate School of Governance Studies will organize an online symposium on September 26 (Sunday). This is an annual event of the school where professors and alumni of the school engaged in practice or research on public policy take parts as panelists. This year, the topic is “how local society is working on child poverty”. Presently in Japan, one in every seven children are living in poverty, and it becomes one of important and urgent issues of the society. It is a problem that needs cooperation and collaboration among various stakeholders in local communities. In the symposium, we would like to discuss the reality of child poverty, measures and activities of local communities to tackle the problem, their achievements and challenges from multiple perspectives. One of the panelists is an officer of Cambodian government who graduates from our school. Thus, in addition to the issue of child poverty in Japan, concrete cases of NGO activities for poor children in Cambodia will be also provided. We welcome the participants from all over the world through online to watch the event and raise questions.
