The defunct Imperial Japanese Army Noborito Laboratory Museum for Education in Peace is a most important site for studying WWII and pre WWII Japanese military history. The Noborito Museum used to be a research facility that focused on ‘clandestine warfare’ – counter intelligence, espionage activities, clandestine strategy and propaganda – which means that Noborito’s activities display the less-discussed and hidden aspects of warfare. It is necessary to acquaint future generations with this history by illustrating the true nature of war and to unflinchingly record the activities of the old Imperial Japanese Army.
In order to record what took place at this facility, Meiji University has established the defunct Imperial Japanese Army Noborito Laboratory Museum for Education in Peace, preserving and reusing the very last building that used to be the Noborito Laboratory. As a part of Meiji University, the museum functions as a center of education about history, about peace, and about science. The museum is intended to be a place for collaboration with the local community, with educators, and with all those who have worked for many years to preserve and utilize the research facility as an important reminder of war.
