Requests to our students in response to the spread of COVID-19

Mar. 21, 2020

To all SGJS students,

Given the outbreak of COVID-19, Meiji University has been advising students, who are in the areas where level 2 (Avoid non-essential travel) or higher travel alert has been issued from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to come back to Japan as soon as possible. However, in response to the epidemic all over the world including the United States, the SGJS requests our students the following with some additions:

1. All students who came back from overseas
It is your option to re-enter Japan; however, students returning from anywhere outside Japan, please stay home or self-isolate in their residence/room for 14 days after your arrival in Japan, and please avoid coming to the university and/or meeting with other students.

2. Students who are graduating in March 2020
If you are coming back to Japan from other countries, we advise you to receive your diploma by postal mail delivery. If you are planning to come to the campus to receive it, please kindly be advised of doing so after 14 days have passed from your arrival to Japan.

For students who are planning to receive your diploma at the campus after March 24, please strictly observe the followings:
・Wash your hands with soap and/or sanitize with alcohol.
・Please follow the “cough etiquette” as advised by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
・Before coming to the campus, measure your body temperature at home. If you have a fever over 37.5℃, please do not come to the campus.
・Even if you do not have a fever, if you have symptoms of cough, runny nose, and sore throat, please do not come to the campus (except students who have these symptoms due to allergies).

3. Current students
The first day of classes for AY2020 is postponed to April 22, as announced on the university website. Please protect your health, and even if you are unaware of any symptoms, we ask you to act with calm judgment to avoid spreading to others, for the time being.

Please be updated with the latest information available. Also, be sure to check our announcements frequently since we may make further requests for our students depending on the situation.
