Agreement for joint scientific research and collaboration

The Center for Obsidian and Lithic Studies has reached an agreement for joint scientific research with the Far East Geological Institute in Russia.

The Meiji University Center for Obsidian and Lithic Studies, and the Far East Geological Institute at the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Vladivostok, Russia) reached an agreement for joint scientific research in the field of geological and archeological obsidian on July 1st, 2011. Planned activities include: 1) joint geological and archeological obsidian studies; 2) research and analysis of excavated geological and archeological materials, and joint publication of research results; 3) organization of a joint scientific symposium, workshop, and seminars; and 4) exchange of scientific literature, research materials, exhibits, etc. This agreement initiated the first step in the international networking activity of our research center.
Due to this agreement, a joint obsidian field survey at the Shukotovo Plateau in the Primorsky region of far-eastern Russia was carried out from September 28 to October 2, 2011. Further research programs and academic exchanges were also discussed.
