Every summer vacation, students in the third year of Yamawaki Seminar travel overseas for a study tour on intercultural communities. So far, they have visited Korea, Taiwan, the Netherlands, and Australia. Since the trip had to be canceled this year due to COVID-19, they held a virtual tour to Australia. The City of Ballarat and the City of Melton are members of the Intercultural Cities Programme promoted by the Council of Europe. Yamawaki Seminar visited these two cities in the summer of 2018, and this time they organized online intercultural seminars with them via Zoom.

On September 2, office members of the City of Ballarat gave a presentation on their intercultural city’s strategic plan. Students from Yamawaki Seminar explained their spring semester activities, which include online study camp, video production, seminars for high school students, and workshops for elementary school students.

On September 30, office members of the Melton City Council joined and gave a presentation about their intercultural plan. Yamawaki Seminar also gave a presentation on their activities. Seven students from local high schools joined this seminar and exchanged their opinions and interests with Yamawaki Seminar students.

A student from Yamawaki Seminar says: "It was a great opportunity to learn about intercultural strategies of the City of Ballarat and the City of Melton. I learned that their strategy focuses not only on accepting immigrants but also on supporting their lives in the cities."

Yamawaki Seminar focuses on themes in intercultural communities. They are action-oriented and community-based. They organize intercultural events collaborating with the City of Nakano and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
