[School of Global Japanese Studies] GJS DAY 2024, event organized by students was held on November 23

Nov. 29, 2024

The School of Global Japanese Studies (SGJS) has been holding a student-oriented event “GJS DAY” since 2021, and this year the event was held for the fourth time on Saturday, November 23 at the Nakano Campus. The purpose of GJS DAY is to provide an opportunity for undergraduate students (mainly first and second year students) to obtain information on seminar selection, and for non-degree students (mainly students preparing for entrance examinations) to learn about what they can study at the SGJS. This year's content included classroom exhibits and presentations, as well as many opportunities for participants to communicate with students and faculty members.

In the classroom, each seminar displayed their research products and explained details to the participants.

Eight seminars gave presentations on their research results and activities in the Hall. It was a valuable opportunity for participants to hear the presentations of various seminars unique to the SGJS.

Five faculty members, including Dean SUZUKI, participated in the meetup event. The meetup was conducted in a casual conversational style, with the faculty members answering questions from the participants and talking about their research in the seminars as well as about themselves.

After the event, an alumni reunion organized by alumni of the SGJS was held in the student cafeteria, providing an opportunity for alumni and current undergraduate students to interact with each other. The reunion was a lively event that included panel talks with current students, free talks, and other events that focused on connecting alumni, students, and faculty members.

Overall, GJS DAY was a meaningful opportunity to strengthen ties not only among students but also with alumni and others outside the university.

This event was organized by official student committees, "GJSSC" and "Kokunichi-Hodai" were in charge of planning, management, and PR of this event.

Comment from FUKASAWA Nanako (2nd year student from GJSSC)
Running an event as large as GJS DAY was a constant process of trial and error, but this year I was able to learn a lot and gain a sense of accomplishment by conducting new segments such as the “exchange meeting with professors” and “stamp rally project” in order to make people more aware of the SGJS. In working with the seminar and other participants, I gained new perspectives on the SGJS and was once again fascinated by its diversity and potential. I am happy to say that the number of visitors greatly exceeded our expectations. We were able to convey to many people the great features of the SGJS, a place of free learning that is not bound by any particular specialty. This flexible environment, which allows each student to pursue their own interests, makes learning more independent and richer. As the organizer of this event, nothing would make me happier than if many people experienced the great features of the SGJS through this event.
